The higher the purity, the higher the melting point of acetic acid, 98% of which is 13.3°C and the pure one is 16.6°C. Therefore, the name glacial acetic acid was coined because acetic acid, which is high in purity, becomes an icy solid at low temperature. According to the Food Additive Standards under the Food Sanitation Act, glacial acetic acid is defined to contain more than 99% of acetic acid. Ice acetic acid is a colorless liquid obtained by obtaining and oxidizing acetaldehyde through the reaction of acetylene and water or by air oxidation of alcohol, and is dissolved in water and most organic solvents, and the aqueous solution is acidic. When glacial acetic acid comes into contact with the skin and mucous membranes, it causes severe inflammation and is widely used to synthesize solvents or organic compounds.
